Great question! Therapy has been proven to help significantly with feelings of anxiety and depression by learning the root cause and developing tangible tools and strategies for managing anxiety and depression. Such outcomes can lead to increased motivation and joy in one's life.
A bonus of participating in therapy is learning more about yourself and your relationships on a deeper level. Together, we can explore the areas of your life you need and develop the life you want.

At a base level, therapy sessions are conversations where you can discuss topics that matter most to you without judgment.
The first few sessions allow us to get to know each other, explore your story, identify areas where you feel you struggle, and establish some initial therapeutic goals. This process allows each person to experience a therapeutic plan that is highly tailored to their needs, and ensures you develop all the tools and strategies you need for managing life's challenges.

This depends mostly on what you would like to address in therapy and your therapeutic goals. There are benefits to both short-term and long-term therapy.
The strongest indicator of a positive and fulfilling outcome from therapy is attending consistent, regular sessions (weekly or bi-weekly) over a structured period to establish and grow your learning.
It is also extremely beneficial for clients to practice at home what they learn in therapy. Such practice will allow for incremental changes over time that can develop into significant positive impacts on one's life, such as reduced anxiety, improved mood, and successful communication.
On average, most people notice the changes they would like within 3 months of consistent therapy (i.e. 12-16 sessions).

Confidentiality is something I take very seriously. I am legally bound by the Code of Ethical Conduct as outlined by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC). As such, I treat all information discussed throughout our work together as confidential, and no information is released without a conversation between us and your consent is provided.
There are a few exceptions to therapeutic confidentiality in which I legally need to break confidentiality. These include:
1. If there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others.
2. If there is a risk of harm to a child.
3. If our records have been subpoenaed by a court order.
I value transparency and trust with my clients, and if I do have to break confidentiality, we will discuss the need to do so for safety purposes.

Yes, your information is protected. I use Pracflow, a practice management software designed specifically for managing and protecting mental health clinician files, which is compliant with the Personal Health and Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Pracflow safely stores all client personal health information, hosts secure video sessions, books appointments, and receives payment.

As a registered mental health provider with Medavie Blue Cross, I am able to offer direct billing to Veterans. Unfortunately, I am not able to direct bill for any other benefits coverage agencies (i.e. Canada Life, Pacific Blue Cross, etc.).
